Bridget Jones's Diary is a 2001 British romantic comedy based on Helen Fielding's novel of the same name. It stars Oscar Winner Renée Zellweger as Bridget, Golden Globe Award winner Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver, and Oscar Nominee Colin Firth as Bridget's "true love" Mark Darcy. The sequel Bridget Jones: The Frontier of Reason was released in 2004.
Before the film was released, there was a great deal of controversy that the American Zellweger would portray a British character; but Zellweger's performance in the film, including his British accent, was widely successful.
