Andrés Avelino Chazarreta (Santiago del Estero, May 29, 18761 - ibid, April 24, 1960) was an Argentine musician and researcher.He was the first diffuser of Argentine folk music, spreading it throughout the country since 1906 with his native art company, culminating in the historic performance at the Politeama Theater in Buenos Aires on March 16, 1921. He was the one who collected classics of Argentine folklore like Zamba de Vargas, La Telesita, La Criollita Santiagueña, among many others.He is considered the "Patriarch of Argentine Folklore" and one of the most important figures for Argentine popular music, although unfortunately today his history is not well known.In commemoration of his birth, May 29 was instituted as "National Day of the Argentine Folklorist."
